Looks great Gabe! I agree that the pigeon is funnier than the wacky bird you had before. The simplicity of the piece is a nice contrast to the other covers you've done. I'll probably pick this one up at the next Comic-Con if it's available, since I always prefer buying your stuff personally.

No French Riviera backdrop to polish it off? Great job anyway, looking forward to the release of book 3.

Awesome stuff, the final product looks great. Oh, and I see Tycho's pant-leg is different than in the image in your last post.

There's nothing weird about that bird, it looks perfectly normal to me. I think Gabe and Tycho are the weird ones.

Great, Gabe. I can't wait!

Love the logo! It doesn't detract from the overall feel, fits right it.

Looks awesome Gabe! I agree with everything jack said above. Simple bird is way better. Can't wait for this and the rest!

I love it Mike. Keep up the great work!

actually the finished cover seems to have a darker contrast than the pre-logo one. not that I care either way, it's amazing! great job

Beautiful.
And yes, I think I'd be interested in buying this as a poster. Not sure if I'd prefer the poster with or without the title, but hey, you're the artist.

Very nice. The logo doesn't hurt the simplicity, as some people worried.

Awesome. Love the art, love the title, sirs. Thanks for sharing.

I like the simplicity, and the plain pigeon does add to the absurdist humor. However, could you draw the disheveled, freaky bird separately too? I think it'd look cool. Maybe add a little Twisp and Catsby too... :)

I think it's realy beautifull, it's got so much style.

Awesome job Gabe!
I would also love to have this as a poster. I can imagine having to explain it to people when they saw it.

BTW, would it be possible to see you color something in photoshop. The video of you inking that drawing was amazing and I'd love to see how you color your drawings after.

Thanks,
Josh.

That you can express such hilarious sentiments on the faces with such a simple sketchy style really is testament to yo' shot, dawg. You totally need a back cover of the chair spinning slowly (er... not at all in a still) and the pigeon looking up at the now empty table. Gabe & Tycho have exactly the same look my friend gives when he spots a seagull and runs for cover.

Gabe,
I demand (please?!) a wallpaper.

Thank you,

ps. 1920x1200 thank you.

Great composition. I wholeheartedly approve.

I just wanted to say that I love this cover! It reminds me of all the times my buddy and I would sit at the black round metal table in the court yard by our college's food cafeteria and wait for his girlfriend to finish work at the children's school on campus. I would always watch the birds peck around by our table and would wonder what they are thinking.

Anyway, I would love a poster of this!

As someone said on the earlier post, I hope you keep this in mind the next time you're making laser cels. This is perfectly simple enough to work really well in a small, single frame format.

I DEMAND(ask respectfully) for a poster of this piece of art. It will be a birthday gift for a friend. His nickname is Bird.

I see that you decided to draw in that chunk of leg that was missing around Tycho's ankle.

The whole thing looks good. I really like the puddle reflection.

That looks awesome, man! Just got the wallpaper version up on my desktop! Keep it up!

just wanted to repeat my comment from the last post, saying how well you captured Seattle. Again, nice work.

You should have this with the PA logo on the dust-jacket but leave the hard-cover with only the illustration. I think having nothing to focus on besides the bird and the characters at the table is the funniest presentation. The back of the book (or just the spine if you fancy) can have a huge close-up of the pigeon's head. It'll be like some ominous symbol that the pigeon is a being of pure horror.

It looks great, Mike. There's just something about it that I love. It retains your's and Jerry's humor, but the lack of a background gives it an upper crusty, almost artsy look. I look foward to buying it.

RotCiv said...

I actually like the "widescreen" version of the wallpaper, having all that negative space somehow really helps the mood

TankHammer said...

I've made a background for 1280x1024 resolution screens for anyone interested.
http://studentpages.scad.edu/~jricci20/personal/wierdbirds.jpg

I chose to isolate the characters as much as possible and leave a nice, big empty space. I gave enough room at the bottom for a start menu (windows users) and left room on the right and left for icons to go where they won't obstruct the illustration.
I hope this will work well for some of you.

Gabe, I was looking at your Balthier inked picture and I had a neat idea;

A coloring book! Gamers around the world would love to get a coloring book full of video game characters. I'd pay up to ten bucks for a good sized one.

Though, I can see why it would be difficult, what with copyrights and such.

However, even a PA or just an original art Gabe coloring book would be a neat addition to the PA merchandizing spectrum...

that is badass :O

Just some quick constructive criticism... Is the shadow for the table a bit off with regards to where the shadow falls on the their pant legs?

Great concept for the cover.

Looks great Gabe! As a joke here at work, someone mentioned it'd be pretty funny if the bird was a prinny, and out of boredom, I put one in using mspaint.

My Japanese host mother (53) gave this picture her seal of approval. She happened to walk by and see it as my desktop wallpaper, and thought it was really cute.
