I thought I’d share my sketch for today’s comic with you guys as well as a version of the strip without text. I was really pleased with my giant rat in frame two. It’s rare that things end up on paper exactly as they appear in my head.

The rat silhouette in the 3rd panel reminds me of the Secret of NIMH. Good stuff!

I like seeing your process in the sketch. Arm up? Sword out? Sweet!

nem0 - that was the first thing i thought of when i saw it too. Looks like Nicodemus from the final fight scene

Cool, it's awesome to see some of the underdrawings you do for the comic. So many people think it's just straight to final art with no steps in between. :)

I like how the back lit silhouette worked out in the third panel, but why did the sword that was in the sketch get dropped out?

I think it adds to the punch line how this fully armed man puts down his weapon to play a board game with a dire rat.

yeah I drew the silhouettes and then forgot about the sword. It should be in there for sure, I just deleted the sketch layer and forgot about the sword.

OKay dude, I gotta ask: how do you make heads or tails out of all the lines in the rough sketch to end up with the final product?

Gabe, do you use Sketchbook or Photoshop for your strip? I'd love to see more videos of you drawing your strip. What did you use to capture that q-unit/light bloom video?

This game is pure crack. I was devastated that the full pc version was not available, you know, NOW for direct downloading. UGH. I got the Nintendo DS version for my upcoming NYC trip.

Today's strip was awesome. We need more art! I love the WOW stuff you've done.

Having been interested in classical studies for a long time, seeing your take on the Achilles/Ajax dice game was incredible. Genuine lolz on that one.

hot. pure hot.
you need to put a sketch book out again.

Hey Bayushi - Are they going to ever release a full version of this game for the PC? Because I've thoroughly exhausted the demo and I need more. Also, the comic might actually be funnier without the words...

You also seem to have forgotten the heroes ponytail when you deleted the sketch layer? Must be with the sword ;)

I like how you carve your forms out with lines. Its a very honest way of drawing, unlike the people who sort of repeat a formulaic series of lines to render their characters, you get in there and actually actively draw things.

Interesting how the comic works even without any text.

I'm with jim, that sword was a nice detail. The rat pondering its next move is the best

I know EXACTLY what you mean. The handful of times I've gotten down on paper (or monitor) exactly how I wanted it to look have been a huge rush.

@ Emily. I believe that they are working on a full pc version, but no concrete release date. I believe summer/fall of 2007 is where its at.
Sheer blasphemy ;)

hey!

first off, /insert lame, five-year PA-fan gushing here/!!1!

second of all, (and this is perhaps even more lame) the really subtle glow in the rat's eyes in the second panel... how?!? i'm guessing photoshop layers and an eraser tool, but i can't quite figure it out.
